Frequently Asked Questions
Domande Frequenti

Signorina offers students the opportunity to explore, use and be immersed in the Italian language and culture using a variety of sensory activities. Although our sessions are bilingual, students and parents will see and hear the language being used in the classroom.

Unfortunately, Signorina does not offer trial sessions.

Yes, payment is required up front in order for the classes to be designed and delivered to their full potential.

Each class is held at Signorina Scuola Italiana – Niddrie Arcade 4/334 Keilor Road, Niddrie 3042.

There is free 2 hour parking available at the rear of the arcade which you can access from Treadwell Rd

We highly encourage carers and children not to attend if they are feeling unwell to reduce risk of spreading infection to other families.

If a class is missed due to illness or other reason, a make-up class can be offered.  Please email your child’s teacher to arrange another time where there is enough capacity to take on more students.

If Signorina cancels a class due to an unforeseen event, Signorina will always endeavour to offer an extra class at the end of the term to make up for the missed session.

We encourage that all students arrive on time to all classes in order for them not to miss out on any explicit teaching for that session. If you are running late please enter the classroom as quietly as possible and have your child join the class when they are ready.

Yes, you can enrol at any time. You will only be charged per amount of sessions remaining in that term.

For parents who have enrolled their child into Bimbi Giochi parents can bring their own Yoga mat, change mat and nappie bags. We provide a small fridge, bottle warmer and kettle for parent convenience. We encourage the use of personal change Mats for nappy changing for hygiene purposes.

For parents enrolling their child into Bambini Brillianti, Ragazzi Curiosi and Esploratori students must bring their scrapbook each week.

We encouraged the use of a drink bottles with child’s name clearly  labelled.

Classes are short and we aim to maximise the hour sessions for learning and active involvement, therefore time will not permit for a food break. This is also an active step towards protecting children with food allergies at our service.

For Bimbi Giochi and Bimbi Allegri parents must accompany and stay with their child for the duration of the sessions.

For the other lessons they will all be teacher run. Parents do not stay, however are welcome to head down to Keilor Road to enjoy a coffee.

The timetable is subject to change at the beginning of each term and new session times will appear at the time of enrolment. In some events some lessons may remain on the same day and time.

To help your child use the Italian language at home, you can

Create a Language-Rich Environment:

Surround your child with Italian books, magazines, music, and movies to expose them to the language in different contexts. Designate specific times for Italian language activities, such as storytelling, singing, or playing games in Italian.  Speak to your child in Italian as much as possible, encouraging them to respond in the same language. Label common household items with their Italian names to increase vocabulary retention. For example – pointing to the clock on the wall say: “Questo e` L`orologio. Articulate and get students to repeat common words.

Prepare Italian recipes together, discussing ingredients and cooking processes in Italian.

Depending on the topic and specific learning outcomes, there may be some small homework tasks that students will be required to complete. However this will not be every week.

Teachers at Signorina will prepare and complete levelled progression certificates. This will allow parents to see what skills their child has attained and their next level of learning. Furthermore, if a parent has any issues or questions the best way to communicate would be via email or talk directly to your child’s teacher.
